Facts About Single-Rotor RC Helicopters

Facts About Single-Rotor RC Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

A single-rotor R/C helicopter consists of a main and tail rotor. The 2 rotors work together to control the stability and maneuverability of the helicopter. Many pilots who are proficient in flying a dual-rotor or coaxial rotor R/C helicopters find single-rotor models a little different. Beginners are not recommended to start with a single-rotor model because of its complexities. The pilot must have a complete understanding of important aspects such as applying throttle to the main rotor, maneuvering of the tail rotor, setting variable pitch to the blades and many more.

A flight simulator is highly suggested before diving into your first single-rotor helicopter adventure. It will give you the feel of an actual single-rotor experience without the hassles and troubles of crashing. That will definitely save you some money and time! Other training apparatus and crash kits can also aid you during your first few flights. A training gear is a set of equipment and supplies that is hitched up onto the landing skid to avoid severe damage. These are similar to carbon rods with orange ping pong balls mounted on ends. Crash kits are basically spare parts readily available in case of a crash or any other smash up.

Major parts and components: An R/C helicopter with a single-rotor generally has either a belt-driven or motor-driven rotor tail. A belt drive gives superior control though an electric motor is less expensive. The tail rotor has the responsibility of preventing the body from rotating against the directions of the main rotor blades. Basic models of single-rotor R/C helicopters have main rotor blades that do not change angle. This is referred to as Fixed Pitch (FP). On the on other hand, advanced types have the Collective Pitch (CP). Helicopters with FP cost much lower but slower than CP helis.

Cheap ready-to-fly (RTF) single-rotor helicopters come with 'brushed motors'. More sophisticated types have 'brushless motors'. This type requires a specific electronic speed controller (ESC) that increases the power and flight time significantly. Rotor heads and tail assemblies are usually made of either plastic computer numerical controlled (CNC) machined aluminum. Most professional aerobatic pilots prefer the CNC type because it results to smoother and more predictable flights if configured properly. It also enhances the helicopter's appearance even if it adds to some weight and cost. Other electronic components that may vary are the following: gyros, radios, servos, and speed controllers.

There is a website that has great information on RC Helicopters, the website is called: RC Helicopters World, and can be found at this url:

Buy Your Own Aviation Model RC Plane

Buy Your Own Aviation Model RC Plane

Rc Helicopter

In the early years of aviation after the golden age of air ship, more precisely after Charles Lindbergh's solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927, airplanes with radial engines ruled the skies. The 30s and 40s decade saw many classic flying machines built primarily for the military. Those days' pilots wore scarves, goggles, boots and leather helmets. Amelia Mary Earhart created history flying solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. Amelia Earhart disappeared into history in the year 1937 attempting to circumnavigate the globe.

People are still fascinated by the life, career and the airplanes of early aviators. The real nostalgia buffs still prefer to have RC models of classic airplanes of yesteryears. An RC model airplane is a miniature of the original airplane that once flew. They are built using the same principles of aerodynamics as the original planes.

Classic RC model airplanes look exactly like their originals. They are colored just like the original and have the same logos and symbols as the original ones. These planes are either electric or gas powered. Electrically powered classic RC airplanes use high performance batteries which need frequent recharging.

The fuel powered or gas powered classic RC airplanes have a glow plug engine and the fuel used is gasoline, methanol, or nitromethane. They are also referred as nitro RC model airplanes.

RC model airplane enthusiasts who prefer the classic models can purchase kits that are widely available and build their own classic model. The kits are available as ARTF (almost ready to fly) or RTF (ready to fly). But the real hobbyists prefer to assemble their own classic RC airplanes. A little knowledge of aeronautics and airplanes will help but if you don't have it, you can buy scale RC airplane plans or RC airplane kits and assemble it.

In the early 1930s, model flying was very different from what it is today. In those days the planes were self propelled by rubber bands but as technology progressed it was possible to make small internal combustion engines for model airplanes. Today vintage RC airplanes have the same classic appearance but they sport the modern glow plug engine and an advanced radio gear.

Traditional classic model RC airplanes were powered by diesel engines, there are still some manufacturers making them. You may buy a kit or build a classic RC airplane from scratch using plans. The classic RC airplanes are large scale models of original planes and balsa wood is used in their construction.

These planes are large and hence fly slowly and gently. These planes will typically have a 4stroke glow plug engine and a 3 channel radio. Ben Buckle, a British company is a much respected manufacturer of classic RC airplanes. You may choose from a number of designs which are available such as 'Majestic Major', 'Buccaneer' or the 'Flying Quaker'.

If you prefer the electric powered airplanes then the 'Aerobatic Classic Bi-Plane Electric RC Plane' is recommended. It's a ready to fly model and you can get started once you remove the model from the box. The Bi-Plane design is very stable, the plane performs awesome loops, rolls, upside down flights and many other stunts. It can take off from any smooth surface. The package includes charger, rechargeable batteries, and radio transmitter. This classic RC model airplane appeals to both the novice and veteran.

Align Trex RC Helicopters: Trex 100S Shopping Guide For You

Align Trex RC Helicopters: Trex 100S Shopping Guide For You

Rc Helicopter

Align Trex RC Helicopters are considered the high end in the RC helicopter hobby. Prices on these guys can go anywhere from for a bare bones helicopter and can go upwards of ,700 and more for the more complex combo kits. But then again Align is considered the top RC helicopter manufacturer. The bigger Trex Align Helis are not meant for the beginner. You don't want to take one of the babies out without any experience and crash it. Make no mistake because these helicopters are the Mac Daddy of RC Helicopters.

In this article we are going to cover the Align Trex 100S, this is the companies first micro sized helicopter. Weighing in at 32g this little on can fit in the palm of your hands. The 100S is intended for the beginner in RC aviation and designed to survive crashes. But it looks as though Align has incorporated all the quality of their big helicopters in this small package. Align Trex RC Helicopters are well known for not coming completely assembled and the 100S is not an exception. Although not as complex as the larger Trex Align Helis, basically all the assembly entails is popping the head onto the main shaft, two ball links, tighten up the "Jesus Bolt" and pop on the canopy and your ready to fly! It has been called the fastest box to flight of any Align Trex yet! Like other micro RC helicopters of its class this one is no different, the 100S is really not intended for outdoor use unless there is virtually no wind and is more intended for indoor use.

The super combo kit for the Align Trex 100S consists of a 2.4 GHz transmitter that also doubles as a flight battery charger and simulator, two lithium polymer batteries, a dual lithium polymer battery charger, a flight simulator cable and software, USB cable for charging (NEW) and 4 AA rechargeable batteries. The standard combo pack includes all of the above except for the lithium polymer charger and rechargeable AA batteries. The super combo kit for these Align Trex RC Helicopters is around 5, standard combo goes for around 0

As mentioned above and this is REALLY a huge selling point for beginners, this Align Trex comes with flight simulator software! you can learn to fly your new 100s before even actually taking to the air with it! This is essential as the prices of these mini's as compared to others is quite expensive so it would prudent for a beginner to learn how to fly and maneuver these Align Trex RC Helicopters virtually before actually flying one in real life. Being that the 100S is a fixed pitch rotor it should not be too much of a lesson to fly one as fixed pitched RC helicopters are known to be within the beginner's realm and easy to control.

Why Buy A Syma S107 Mini Remote Helicopter?

Why Buy A Syma S107 Mini Remote Helicopter?

Rc Helicopter

Getting into the hobby of flying Mini remote RC helicopters is so rewarding and truly so much fun and also does not cost a fortune to get started- So let us say you have a budget of . Now we will go into more facts and why I recommend the Syma S107.

The Great features of the Syma as follows:
Right out of the box and charged either by the USB cable supplied or from the remote directly the Syma S107 flies straight up and hovers with hardly any trim which is done by adjusting the trim on the infra-red remote. You need 6 AA Batteries for the remote, that is only your extra costs.I find charging by the USB cable is much quicker than charging with the remote. When I say this is a stable mini RC helicopter that is an under statement. By pushing the right remote control the rear tail motor fires up and the helicopter will fly forward and backwards, she will also turn left or right complete 360 degree turn. As soon as you stop moving she will just hover awaiting your next move. It is made of light alloy frame that can withstand some bad crashes. The blades are made of strong flexible plastic and again will take some punishment. To me this is not a toy helicopter but a mini coaxial helicopter that has blades spinning in two different direction giving stability. The Syma S107 also has a gyro function that ads to complete stability when hovering. Because not a plastic toy spare parts are easy to get and very reasonably priced should you have a serious crash.

Some bad points:
The remote is infra-red which means it does not like sunlight. In my personal view the Syma is an indoor helicopter not suited for outdoors, as hates any wind at all. If you want to fly outside this helicopter is not for you. Try to keep away from your digital TV as can affect remote signal. Do not fly near a fan or air conditioner, turbulence of air will make you lose control. Battery power only really lasts 5 to 6 minute flying time and then 20 minutes to recharge. Point to consider is to let the battery cool down after a flight for 15 minutes as they get hot and constant recharging without a cool down period will give less battery life. That is why I have a few Syma 107 helicopters charged and ready to fly. Do not keep flying until all battery power depleted, again strains the battery. There are some fakes and clones being sold on the market so be careful. There is a difference between the two, clones generally being ok as made under license.

All said and done this mini remote helicopter for its price will give hours of fun and probably wet your appetite to buy a bigger helicopter. The great thing is this little bird is complete and ready to fly out of the box with everything supplied. All that is required is just a charge and 6AA batteries for the remote. When you start to research which helicopter to buy for a beginner, you will see prices over 0 for the same quality the Syma S107 offers at around or less depending where you buy it from, makes you realize the sheer value for money she offers.

Remote Control Helicopters - Beginner's and Budgeter's Fuel For Flying Fun

Remote Control Helicopters - Beginner's and Budgeter's Fuel For Flying Fun

Rc Helicopter

Which low-cost remote-control helicopter models are good for first-time fliers?

Beginners will appreciate a quick learning period requiring minimal practice to fly the RC helicopters we're discussing here. Even if you're not spending a lot you should expect four-channel controls and low maintenance costs. I recommend: the Esky Honey Bee 2, the Esky Honey Bee CP 3, the Skyartec WASP V3, or the Syma S009.

Which RC helos do you suggest if I wanted to spend maybe or more for more features?

More features for more money is a given. These RC helis have easy-to-fly controls common in the new generation of RC birds. These helicopters are controlled via a three-channel transmitter that provides four-way directional control (forward, ascend, left, and right). Plus, these models offer adjustable trim via the on-board potentiometer. Another perk is maximum crash resistance - harder to crash land and less likely to break. Good choices if you'd like to upgrade to a beginner-friendly but more sophisticated remote control helicopter include: The Syma RC Helicopters S023, S009, or the Double Horse RC Helicopters models 9060, 9081, 9088, 9089, 9070.

And what if my budget allows for an extra 0, what other features should I expect?

Take a look at the Esky 2.4GHZ Honey Bee King 3 or the Esky 2.4Ghz Belt cp v3. This category of RC helos can handle more rigorous 3D flying techniques. These models have high-performance heading lock gyros that enable sport flying and 3D aerobatics

And, if you have multiple remote-controlled toys flying together, you'll want the new 2.4G remote control system that offsets conflicting frequencies: Advanced Spread Spectrum technology and digital FSK (Frequency Shift Key) coding technology, are also common in this price range. Combined with four digital servos, remote-control helicopter pilots enjoy rapid responses, precise controls, and nimbler movements.

Is there one low-cost model you'd recommend to almost anyone? Why?

Yes, the Esky Honey Bee 3. Its durability allows it to withstand most crashes. Easy maintenance and simplified mechanics set the Honey Bee 3 apart. But the best part? The Honey Bee 3's top-notch motor provides super power for high-performance flight and the 3D maneuvers common in professional 3D aerobatic flight.

Plus, it comes factory-tested and fully assembled. Flying fun right out of the box.

Why a Scale Turbine RC Helicopter?

Why a Scale Turbine RC Helicopter?

Rc Helicopter

RC helicopters come in various forms and can be categorized in numerous ways whether it is by ability, power capacity, or size.

The most common form of a RC helicopter is a basic toy version which can be found in any toy store around. They can be used by almost anyone and are relatively inexpensive compared to the hobby grade RC helicopters. They do not operate the same as hobby grade ones but they are fun and a good way to introduce a young child to the hobby. Micro coaxial RC helicopters are sometimes still categorized with toy helicopters but much more sophisticated yet are still small in size. They are a great way to learn how to maneuver a RC helicopter because of their low cost and small size yet are still adored by avid hobbyists.

Larger electric RC helicopters have become more popular in recent years because of recent developments in batteries and their capacity. Batteries now last longer than in the past which makes using an electrically charged battery more feasible and easier. It is now possible to fly a helicopter longer because batteries now last longer and are actually lighter. Because the newer batteries provide more power than in the past it is possible for skilled hobbyists to maneuver while being quieter than before. Most RC helicopters sold in toy stores are electric but it is more common to see larger RC helis that are electrically powered then before.

Nitro powered remote controlled helicopters are powered by Nitro fuel. They are favored by hobbyists due to their relatively low price and unbelievable power. The Nitro engine in small yet is able to power larger more sophisticated aircraft. The engines used in Nitro RC helicopters are usually called ?glow engines? this is because they use a glow plug instead of a spark plug. They also use a particular fuel which is made up of methanol, oil, and nitro methane.

One more type of RC helicopter is the Gas powered RC helicopter. It is sometimes confused with Nitro powered helicopters but it is actually similar in mechanics but has a completely different engine. They use fuel which consists of regular gasoline and is mixed with two cycle oil. The engines are relatively larger when compared to the Nitro engine and it is also more expensive when compared to it as well.

Top RC Helicopter - Syma S107 Remote Control Helicopter

Top RC Helicopter - Syma S107 Remote Control Helicopter

Rc Helicopter

Own the New Syma S107 Remote Controlled Helicopter and experience the fun of flying one of the best and modern mini RC helicopters. This is the smallest and lightest RC helicopter on the market today produced by the well know brand Syma.

I have never actually owned any kind of remote-controlled flying machine but I have always thought about getting one. I guess it was one of my childhood dreams to actually own a remote control helicopter. Of course, back in the day the machines were not as advanced as they are today.

Browsing through Amazon I came across this Syma S107 and I have to say it really caught my eye; take a look at it for yourselves and you will see why. If you are looking to buy a mini RC helicopter then I would seriously consider taking a look at this New Syma S107 Remote Controlled Helicopter before making any decisions.

Nowadays with the improvement in technology and cost efficiency owning and flying an RC helicopter can be fun and affordable. As a beginner, if you have never flown one of these before it is probably best to start off with a mini RC helicopter as they are smaller, less expensive, and durable. A mini helicopter such as the New Syma S107 is perfect for beginners and even advanced pilots. These helicopters are just right for anyone aged 8 and upwards so are great gifts for anyone interested in taking up remote controlling as a hobby.

Mini Helicoptersare a great way to get into this fun and exciting hobby. This will allow you to hone your pilot skills on inexpensive helicopters before you move on to more advanced helicopters if that is what you choose to eventually do.

The New Syma 3 Channel S107 Mini Indoor Remote Controlled Helicopter can literally fit in the palm of your hand at approximately 7.5 inches long and weighing in at only 34grams. It is equipped with latest Gyroscope technology which is used to stabilize the helicopter's heading, not seen on many old style mini helicopters. The S107 comes equipped with a high grade metal body frame and not a delicate piece of plastic that many RC helicopters are made from.

Its miniature size and light weight making it perfectly portable so you can take it pretty much anywhere you go. With a super wide infrared control it is thus well suited for indoor flying. For a steady lift off the S107 is controlled by a 32-Level high precision speed controller, which automatically stabilizes the rotor blade system.

It is a 3 channel indoor heli meaning it can move forward, up, down, left and right. Two solid motors power the high tenacity propellers with a third motor in the tail rotor, which gives this machine the power you need.

This mini Gyro Metal helicopter comes with a high capability Li-Poly battery which is good for longer flight time and charges directly either from the USB cable or from the controller which uses AA batteries.

RC Car Battery Packs - NiMH Vs LiPo

RC Car Battery Packs - NiMH Vs LiPo

Rc Helicopter

NiMH is short for nickle metal hydride while LiPO is short hand for lithium polymer. Both of these types of batteries are currently being used in the electric model RC car scene. Most ready to run RC model cars will include some form of battery -to keep costs down, they are usually the NiMH variety. LiPo battery packs really came on to the RC model scene powering model airplanes and helicopters-taking advantage of their light weight and superior power density.

Thanks to a robust and highly competitive RC Car racing environment, LiPo battery packs are definitely the newer and preferred power source for todays' power and speed hungry RC car customer base. LiPo batteries are now even taking over the common consumer products-powering most higher end cordless power tools, as well as a near 100% of the laptops and cell phones currently produced! So what exactly is it that makes LiPo batteries so popular with the RC car crowd? Well, with a number of Chinese manufacturers fighting for market share, prices have become so cheap and availability so high via the world wide web. Of course, besides a lower price structure from just a few years ago, the performance and capabilities of the battery packs have improved as well. There are more sizes to choose from, and now there are RC Car specific packs rather than those originally sized for model airplanes. The chargers for LiPo battery packs have also become less expensive and generally easier to use; probably one of the more likely reasons for people venturing to the LiPo side with a now lower investment. The lithium polymer chemistry of the LiPo battery pack is also inviting. With a higher power density-lower weight with same or higher voltage and current output than NimH, the speediest of all RC cars will be running some form of LiPo power pack. Current world record speed holders are now powered by LiPo batteries rather than banks of Nimh cells!

So is NimH dead? Well that question can be answered as NO. Are they the most powerful battery pack for a RC model car....that answer is also no. What matters is what the application requires. Low cost is still a factor in favor of NimH despite cheap lipos littering the market. Nimh uses technology that is now 20 years old. With that in mind, simple chargers are very easy on the budget, and most NimH factories produce excellent battery packs with experienced processes and quality control. Safety is still on the side of the NimH battery. There is still less of a chance of fire/explosion caused by over charging with a Nimh vs. LiPo battery. Durability is still on the side of NiMH battery packs as they can be run down to near zero volts whereas that would ruin a LiPo battery. A fourth, almost contrarian view, is that NimH batteries weigh more and put out lower voltage....an actual plus for controlled club racing and beginners. A "loose" off road track may be better traveled with a Nimh battery offering more traction and less power to break the tires' grip. A good Nimh battery can still offer the same number of charge-discharge cycles as a Lipo battery-and without special balance chargers that Lipos require. For someone who may have reentered the hobby but still has equipment-they may choose to still use NiMH batteries.

All in all, it really depends on ones budget and application. Many hobbyists have both NimH and LiPO battery packs. Some will bash with either battery -do speed runs with lipos-or whatever they choose. With Lipo battery packs becoming cheaper, especially as new hobbyists and lipo friendly equipment enters the market, we can guess that Nimh will become less of a choice for the consumer.

Nimh and LiPo battery packs require different care in use, storage, and charging. We will cover this in an upcoming article.

Flying a Radio Controlled Helicopter For Beginners

Flying a Radio Controlled Helicopter For Beginners

Rc Helicopter

If you have ever visited an RC flying club, you have seen, in all probability, one of the members flying a helicopter. The expert RC helicopter pilot can fly their craft in many different aerobatic maneuvers. Learning how to fly an Remote Controlled helicopter in that manner takes lots of patience and perseverance.

You can't fly an Remote Controlled helicopter unless you own one. The novice can be somewhat bewildered by the various models and options of Remote Controlled helicopters for sale. Sizes, options on the helicopter, the choice of electric or gas power, are only some of the selections. Making the right choice the first time can frequently be a hit or miss proposition.

When selecting an RC helicopter it may be best to start out with a less powerful and slightly less capable model. A novice learning to drive doesn't usually start out in a Porsche and the same concept applies to flying an RC helicopter. An entry level heli will give the beginner Remote Controlled helicopter pilot the opportunity to learn how to fly at a reasonable cost.

RC aircraft, helicopters included go up into the sky. Gravity brings them back down to earth. Sometimes when they come back to the ground that return is not in an entirely controlled manner. Crashes are going to happen and this must be kept in mind since it is going to cost money to replace your helicopter.

Flying an Radio Controlled helicopter requires space. When room to fly in is in short supply, a smaller sized helicopter is probably a good idea. A level open area, free from trees and overhead lines is highly desirable. Many Radio Controlled clubs have both the space to safely fly in and often allow RC helicopter pilots the time to develop their abilities.

You can learn to fly an Remote Controlled helicopter; however learning to fly takes training. Given enough time, the proficiency to fly the Radio Controlled helicopter will come. It may not be very long before the beginner becomes an "old pro" who finds themselves giving advice to the person who thinks that they might want to learn how to fly an Remote Controlled helicopter.

Banana Hobbies - How to Choose the Best RC Helicopter for You

Banana Hobbies - How to Choose the Best RC Helicopter for You

Rc Helicopter

People who are new to Banana Hobbies RC helicopters often face the dilemma of selecting the most suitable model for them. With so many designs and brands to choose from, it can really be a hobbyist's nightmare-but luckily there are three main factors that will help you determine which product is right for you. Read the information provided below so you can finally pick the model chopper that fits your needs.

3 Factors to Consider When Choosing Your RC Helicopter

1. Budget. First of all, you have to know how much you're willing to spend on your new toy gadget. There is one main thing that affects the price of a chopper, and that is its power source. RC helicopters come in either electric or fuel-powered models-the former uses batteries and is therefore more affordable, while the latter uses nitro, petrol, gas turbine and other fuel types that makes it a lot more expensive. A typical electric model can go as low as 0 and reach to ,500 while fuel-powered types cost from ,000 to ,000.

Electric RC choppers are common among hobbyists because it's less stressful on the budget, but there are still enthusiasts who prefer fuel-powered models because of the longer flight duration and stronger engines. However, you can never really tell which type is superior to the other because it all depends on the user's preference and purpose. But remember that it's always better to go with a fairly expensive model that you know is made of high quality rather than settle for a cheaper brand that doesn't really meet your standards. So whether you choose an electric or fuel helicopter, be sure to check the quality and performance so you will always get your money's worth.

2. Purpose. Your main objective also plays an essential part in your buying decision. Ask yourself what you're going to use your model chopper for: is it for recreational purposes, are you going to start a collection, or are you planning to join flying competitions?

If it's only for fun and recreation, then a fairly-priced but quality item should do. For a model helicopter collection, you will need more stylish models that you can proudly display in your home. For flying purposes, however, you will definitely need a stronger and more proficient design so you can compete with the other chopper models in the contest. Ask a fellow hobbyist or a Banana Hobbies professional to give you some credible advice on how to choose a capable chopper.

3. Preferences. Finally, you should know the features you want for your mini helicopter so you can find the one that really works for you. Some of the basic specifications you need to decide on are the following:

Brand: choose from reputable small helicopter manufacturers such as Art-Tech, BlitzRCWorks, Colco, ESky, HeliPro, Nine Eagles, Walkera and many more.

Power source: choose from electric or fuel-powered types.

Size: sub-micro (<100g <20cm rotor diameter, extremely small and suitable for indoor flying), micro (small models that are often 350-sized), miniature (400 to 450-sized pitch helicopters), small (500-sized electric helicopters with tiny nitro engines), normal (30 and 50-sized nitro or 600-sized electric), large (60 and 90-sized nitro or 700-sized electric), and beyond.

Once you have determined exactly what specifics you want, then it will be easier for you to choose your very own Banana Hobbies helicopter. Just make sure you consider all the three factors mentioned above so you won't have a hard time deciding which model to purchase. Again, don't hesitate to call customer service or ask a friend who's into RC choppers if you encounter any problems.
